What is an internship?

International Teams Australia offers 1 month to 2 year internships to many parts of the world, where people can serve short-term alongside one of our teams. In the last few years, interns from Australia have served in Kenya, Bolivia, Tanzania, Indonesia, Mexico and Cambodia.

At International Teams, we seek to invest in the lives of young people by sharing the Good News and becoming role models and mentors to today’s youth who are looking for answers, desperate for hope and in need of a personal relationship with God.

Internships transform lives. They transform the lives of the poor and oppressed with whom you will work, as you bring hope and love, but it will also transform YOUR life.

“I have been challenged to serve God with all of my life and not be content with a few hours a week and keeping the rest for me. Spending time with and living with Bolivian missionaries and Christians has shown me that I need to talk about God more, to encourage and keep accountable other Christians and to give God the glory in every conversation. I thank God continuously for the chance I have had to learn and to serve in Bolivia.”- Intern.

Latin America

Phil Jones, sent from Balwyn Gospel Chapel, Melbourne with International Teams Australia, works among young people in Queretaro, Mexico. He has established RenovArte Cafe to outreach among university students. He says…

“Our greatest desire is to see young people in Mexico encounter Jesus and grow in Him in a way that transforms their world.”

Talk to us about serving alongside Phil and the team in Mexico.

There are nearly 270 million youth in Latin America. In partnership with Sonlife, International Teams has established a Latin America Multiplication Center.

The vision of the Centre is to mobilise and train Latin Americans who will in turn invest their lives in others, so that disciples of Jesus Christ are multiplied both in Latin America and across the world.

India Quest

India Quest is a special internship course, based in India and Sri Lanka, for young people aged 18 to 23 years old, covering all aspects of what it means to be Jesus’ disciple here on earth. If you want a GAP year filled with adventure, the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the poor and oppressed and a deeper relationship with God, then this is the course for you!

“Discipleship is the main reason for coming on India Quest. No student has ever been the same after coming on this course. Be prepared to be challenged!” – India Quest participant.

What’s the first step?

Where is God leading you?

What are my gifts? How can I use them to help the poor and oppressed?

We have Church Missions Consultants who will journey with you and help you work through the answers to these questions and others, as you prepare to go on your internship. We are committed to developing a unique internship for you where you help the poor and oppressed, you maintain a strong relationship with your home church and you gain a bigger picture of God and his world.

What’s involved in being an intern?

1. Once you have completed the questionnaire, we’ll start some conversations – with you and your church leader and we’ll send you an application form or you can download one here: Intern Application Form

2. Complete the application form and provide us with some references – from your church leader and others who know you well.

3. Once accepted you’ll do some training – we want to equip you well for an effective internship with training and resources. We will encourage you to participate in training through Missions Interlink Short Term Training (MIST).

MIST is a 3-4 day weekend course designed to provide an environment in which participants are stimulated to think and learn more about the challenges of living and working as a short-termer in a cross-cultural setting. It is offered at different times of the year and across Australia.

Click here to find out more about MIST

4. Before you go we encourage you to get a mentor to help you with the re-entry process once you have returned from your cross-cultural internship.

5. Go and serve!

6. Debrief after your cross-cultural experience with your mentor, read through re-entry resources, reflect on your experience and share at one of our Journeys evenings.
